The national bird of South Africa, the Blue Crane.
I came out of the other side of this painting with an ever deepening love of these birds, and I believe that somewhere along the line I said the words “I don’t know how I haven’t been obsessed with blue cranes before now” – because gosh darnit they are just so spectacularly, paradisically beautiful.
This was the first of a series of paintings for “Vulnerable Animals Week” – highlighting one threatened animals species from each continent.
Dimensions – 20x25cm. An original watercolour & ink illustration.
Media – watercolour (Daniel Smith) & ink on 300gsm hot press 100% cotton paper (Saunders Waterford). The golden embellishments are painted with gold ink.
