We were meandering down from Gauteng, there wasn’t much of a plan – but even then I wouldn’t have expected to be able to take a wrong turn on the national highway. We achieved it nonetheless, without even noticing for an embarrassingly long time. It turned out to be a delightfully happy accident because we eventually got spat back out on the N12 upon which lay Meiringspoort with its beautiful waterfall and beyond that… Just a little bit down the highway, tucked behind the touristy bit another river running down and under a highway bridge, this most enchanting little shaded pool.
