Pet Portraits

Pet portraits are a truly precious investment in a life-lasting celebration of your best friend. They bring so much joy to the parents of the pets they depict, and there is often a sense of magic in a painting that a photograph just can’t capture. They also make fantastic gifts, if you are stuck on a gift idea for someone special.

I’m one of those people that can be found making best friends with the cat at a house party. I’ve always adored animals and given my career history one could say that I’ve had a lot of exposure to animals of all shapes and sizes. We have a special bond, the beasties and me, so it is only natural that I love painting animals and capturing their unique personalities in special one-of-a-kind portraits.

Photos

In short – you are welcome to send me oodles of photos of your furchild. It helps me a lot to see them from multiple angles and from there we can work together to decide on the best photo for the main reference.

What I look for in a main reference:

  • A clear, high quality image
  • Clear and visible eyes (unless for example hair in front of the eyes is a classic feature that you want to capture)
  • Good lighting (not night/dark photos).
I adore doing ‘dramatic lighting’ so if you have any great pictures of your furbaby in a beam of sunlight I find those make for incredibly lovely paintings.
  • Well-angled (get your pet on their good side!) – photos where the camera was relatively level with your pet work best.
  • A photo you feel captures the personality of your pet
  •  If you love the photo, it often does the trick.

The more majestic the better.

I also love to hear about your pet’s personality, so that I can make sure the portrait truly captures who they are.
